On Monday June 26th Funcom is launching ‘Secret World Legends‘, its Free-to-Play reboot of its conspiracy themed massively multiplayer online game ‘The Secret World’. With fully revamped combat mechanics, a redesigned progression system, visual upgrades, and with a greater focus on the player’s journey through the world and its massive storyline, ‘Secret World Legends’ offers a better and more accessible entry into the world myths and legends.
Funcom Launches ARG..
With only one week to go, Funcom is counting down to release by kicking off a mystery ARG (Alternate Reality Game) titled ‘Kiss of the Revenant’. Focusing on the solving of intricate puzzles and mysteries, in this ARG an unsettling storyteller invites players to take a second look at a tragic love story on the Savage Coast. Players will be challenged to decipher and perform a ritual that crafts an exclusive set of weapons for use in ‘Secret World Legends‘. The ARG is free and accessible to anyone on www.kissoftherevenant.com .
‘Kiss of the Revenant‘ has now started and will run up to launch of the game on June 26th.
For this event, Funcom worked with the gaming studio Alice & Smith. The companies have a track record of teaming up together to make innovative, compelling alternate reality games and puzzle events, including crossovers between ‘ The Secret World’ and Alice & Smith’s own property, ‘The Black Watchmen’. As part of this event, a special edition of ‘Secret World Legends’ will also be available soon on Steam in an ARG bundle including various exclusive in-game items and a copy of ‘The Black Watchmen’.
Secret World Legends, What About TSW?
The Secret World MMO will, for the most part, cease to exist as we know it with the launch of a revamped game, Secret World Legends. SWL will be available free-to-play to everyone via Steam on June 26th. On the positive side, the relaunch brings a redesigned combat system to make action feel more natural, more intuitive systems to interact with, enhanced visuals, an improved flow of quests, and improved structure of the early game for new players.
First, the big questions I had as a player of TSW since beta..
Will the old version of the game be playable?
Yes, the TSW servers will still be available to play. You will not be able to launch TSW via Steam though. If you are currently playing on Steam and want to continue after the launch of Secret World Legends, you can do so at: https://register.thesecretworld.com/account
What about TSW Grand Masters?
Link your Secret World Legends account to your old TSW account and you will become a Patron in Secret World Legends forever!
What does linking your account do?
When you link your account, you will be able to transfer over any remaining membership from TSW to Secret World Legends. In addition, you will be able to move over some vanity items from the previous game. You can also exchange your Funcom Points for Aurum.
How do I link my Steam account to my old account?
Once you have launched the game, there will be a menu on the start screen that allows you to link your old The Secret World account to your new Secret World Legends account. Click this button, log into your old account, and confirm that you want to link them.
Fresh start..
As a result of this relaunch, everyone will begin Secret World Legends with a new character. Secret World Legends makes some major changes to itemization and character progression that aren’t compatible with the old game unfortunately. Legacy characters will still be playable on the old TSW servers and they’re implementing a system to transfer over some vanity/store items from TSW to Secret World Legends.
All in all this is a huge change to a game I really loved but admittedly haven’t played in quite awhile. Definitely going to be present June 26th to experience the rebirth.
